In recognition of International Human Rights Day, Avalon Sexual Assault Centre has been recognized as a provincial leader in human rights.
On Dec. 10 at a ceremony at Millwood High School in Lower Sackville N.S., the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission awarded our organization a Human Rights Award.
The theme for this year’s Human Rights Award was “Voice It! Change It!”. As advocates for almost 30 years, Avalon Sexual Assault Centre’s staff have worked ceaselessly to voice human rights abuses and to change the systems of oppressive that cause sexualized violence.
For more remarks about the importance of the award, listen to Executive Director Irene Smith’s speech from the awards ceremony.
