Statement on the Housing Crisis

We believe everyone has a right to belong, have a home, and live a good life. Housing is a human right, and Avalon opposes any action that may cause harm to people in our community who are already vulnerable and marginalized. Although our organization does not provide housing or operate shelters, we support and collaborate with those who do. We also encourage everyone to keep compassion at the forefront as we work through tough issues and find solutions together.

People who are housing insecure and homeless are at heightened risk for sexualized violence, and experience increased challenges when accessing services and supports. Avalon stands in solidarity with all survivors and works to decrease barriers to service and increase understanding of the complex, interconnected conditions that reduce safety for our unhoused neighbours.  Everyone deserves a safe home.
