Professionals are sometimes unsure of how to respond to a victim of sexual violence or are unaware of available services. They may have concerns about their professional liability or legal responsibility and how this is impacted upon by sexual assault laws. Avalon Centre received funding from the Law Foundation of Nova Scotia to conduct the project Sexual Assault Legal Education Training: Improving the Service Provider’s Response to Survivors of Sexual Violence. This project is in response to requests for information from professionals, the general public, and victims/survivors of sexual violence.
The general objective of this project is to reduce the barriers that sexually assaulted women experience in accessing the criminal justice system by improving the overall legal knowledge of a variety of professional groups who provide services to these women.
