November 6th – 10th is forensic nurse’s week. We would like to take the time to honor the incredible work and commitment of our team of Avalon Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Program nurses. The SANE program responds to the IWK, Cobequid, QEII, or Dartmouth General Hospitals and provides medical attention and/or forensic evidence collection to folks of all ages and genders that have experienced a sexual assault within 5 Days of the incident. This incredibly important program runs 24 hours/ 7 days a week and it wouldn’t be possible without our amazing team of trauma-informed forensic nurses.
To the Avalon SANE team, thank you for all that you do: For conducting medical exams and forensic evidence collection, validating survivors and letting them know they are believed and they aren’t alone, and for providing professional consultation and expert testimony. Thank you for being understanding, supportive, and non-judgemental during an incredibly difficult time of survivors lives. You play a vital role in health care’s response to victims/survivors of sexualized violence. #HappyForensicNursesWeek.
